Granite countertop edge profiles, why did the 90s happen

Hit up a friend's place in Columbus last weekend and every counter in that house had the same giant rounded bullnose with that thick laminate look, even though it's real stone. Made me wonder if we'll look back at the sharp square edges everyone's doing now the same way in 20 years. Anyone else notice dated edge styles way easier than dated colors?

Three different houses in my neighborhood still have that same giant rounded bullnose from the 90s, and one of them just sold for top dollar, which blew my mind. The owners were so proud of it, too, like it was some kind of fancy feature instead of the default option every builder used back then. I honestly think the sharp square edge trend is just as much of a fad, but it looks way cleaner to my eye right now, probably because I grew up staring at the rounded ones. My own kitchen has a very slight bevel, not the full square, and even that feels risky when I look at photos from 2010. The colors are easy to spot as dated, like that green granite everyone had, but the edges sneak up on you because they just feel like part of the room. Give it 20 years and people will be ripping out those sharp corners just like they are the bullnose today, I guarantee it.
