My neighbor in Denver told me to use a wet rag when sanding drywall

He said it keeps the dust down and makes the paper last longer. I tried it on a ceiling patch last week and it actually worked way better than I expected. The dust just clumped up on the rag instead of going everywhere. Has anyone else tried this trick on bigger jobs like a whole room?

Jump right in and give it a shot on a full room, you won't regret it. The trick with swapping rags like casey145 mentioned is key - I keep a five gallon bucket with water and a stack of old t-shirt rags cut into squares. When one gets caked with mud, just toss it in the bucket and grab a fresh one, wring it out so it's damp but not dripping. That way you don't end up with puddles on the floor or have to stop and rinse constantly. The dust clumps up so fast you can barely see it floating in the air, and your sandpaper lasts twice as long since it's not gumming up with dry grit. Seriously, it's one of those things that sounds too simple to work but once you try it, you'll never go back to dry sanding.

Yeah that trick is a total game changer for full rooms too. I keep a bucket of water and a few rags nearby and just swap them out as they get loaded up. It cuts cleanup time in half, no lie.

That's wild, @casey145, I always found swapping rags just made more wet mess to deal with later.
