Rented a floor sander from Home Depot and the guy working the counter had no clue how it worked
Handed me the wrong grit paper and said 'this should be fine' without even asking what kind of wood I had. Spent an extra hour fixing swirl marks because of that advice. Anybody else deal with clueless rental desk staff?

Maybe it's not that big a deal, you can sand it again.

Sympathize with how frustrating this must be. Spending hours on a sanding job only to see it didn't take is just demoralizing. I've been there with a dining table where I thought I'd stripped enough polyurethane off, but it bubbled right through the new stain. Having to start over after all that work makes you want to throw the whole piece out the window. You have my respect for even considering sanding again instead of setting it on fire.
