Showerthought: My bathroom tile job almost went sideways when the wet saw quit

Honestly, I was in my garage last Saturday morning, about halfway through cutting subway tile for the guest bathroom. The wet saw was humming along fine, then it just stopped dead. No noise, no power, nothing. I checked the outlet and the breaker, but it was the saw itself. I had a whole wall left to do and the mortar was already mixed. Ngl, I panicked for a minute. I ended up running to the hardware store and renting a manual tile cutter for $25 for the day. It was slower and my arms were sore, but I got all the cuts done. Has anyone else had a major tool fail mid-project? What did you do to keep going?

Man, that's the worst! Did you figure out what actually killed the wet saw, or was it just a mystery failure? I'd be paranoid about my other tools after that.

Sometimes they just die, no big warning sign.

Honestly, the idea of a mystery failure is what gets me. In my experience, tools usually give you some warning. A weird sound, a smell, a loss of power. I'd bet if you think back, there was a sign you missed. Being paranoid about other tools is a waste of energy. Just pay closer attention to them when you use them. Most of the time they tell you when something is wrong, you just have to listen.
