Swapped from a brush roller to a foam roller for my baseboards and never going back

Spent a whole Saturday doing trim work and that brush kept leaving streaks no matter how careful I was, then a buddy handed me a 4-inch foam roller and it laid down paint perfectly flat in one coat. Has anyone else found a random tool swap that just clicked way better than the standard way?

The 4 inch foam roller is great for smooth surfaces but you might want to stick with a small brush for the corners and along the floor where the roller can miss. I learned that the hard way when I had to go back and touch up spots the foam couldn't reach. It saves time on the long stretches though, no argument there.

@miles798 same thing happened to me with a paint sprayer and a cardboard box to catch overspray. Total game changer.

Always used a wet rag for cleaning up paint drips on trim. But a scrap piece of cardboard changed my life. Just slide it under the baseboard before you roll, catches every drip. No crouching, no wiping, just pull it out and toss it.
