That 30 year old sump pump finally gave up during a storm
Honestly, my basement flooded last Tuesday after a heavy rain because the sump pump just quit. It was one of those cast iron models from the 80s that the previous owner left, so I cant even be mad at it. I pulled it out, saw the impeller was cracked clean through, and spent $240 on a new plastic one that's way quieter. Took me about 4 hours to swap it out, mostly because the discharge pipe was glued with some ancient sealant. Has anyone else had an old pump die at the worst possible time, or is it just my luck?

Four hours in a wet basement, that's some dedication. My old one died mid-storm too, so I feel your pain.
