That fancy $40 pull-chain light fixture I bought for the basement

Installed it last weekend and the chain broke on the third pull. The cheap plastic mechanism just gave up. Has anyone else had luck with those old-school brass ones instead?

Grabbed one of those brass ones at a thrift store for like 5 bucks and it's been through hell without a single issue. Guess I learned the hard way that fancy means fragile.

Yeah @noah248 you're totally right about that. Simple and sturdy has always outlasted the overpriced stuff in my experience too.
