Update: my neighbor Mrs. Alvarez in Tucson showed me her 1970s sewing cabinet turned into a drill press stand
I was at her garage sale two Saturdays ago and she had this old Singer cabinet with the flip top, and when I said I needed a stand for my bench top drill press she just smiled. She walked me inside and showed me hers, bolted down with two C-clamps and a scrap of 3/4 plywood on top for a work surface. She has been using it for 11 years and the drawers hold every bit and chuck key she owns. What stuck with me was her saying you don't need new wood when the old wood already has a flat top and a drawer. I paid her $20 for the cabinet, sanded it down, and mine is bolted up in my shop now. Has anyone else built a tool stand out of old furniture instead of buying one?
