Guy at Habitat ReStore swore by old-school drywall mesh tape over fiberglass
Tried it on a ceiling patch job three nights ago. Still fighting bubbles and peeling edges, should have stuck with what I knew.

Buddy of mine swore by that stuff too and ended up with half his ceiling in the trash can after a weekend. Said he'd rather use cardboard and spit than mess with it again.
