Hot take: a $9 heat gun beat my $120 soldering iron for shrinking wire splices at 2am
I was redoing the turn signal harness on my 1983 Honda at 1am last Tuesday and got tired of waiting on my soldering iron to heat up for every splice, so I grabbed the cheap heat gun sitting in my drawer. With shrink tube and a little solder, I did 14 connections in about 20 minutes, and every single one passed the tug test, which is way better than the cold joints I kept getting with the iron. Am I missing something here, or is the heat gun just the better tool for this job and nobody talks about it?
