Just realized soaking rusty bolts in vinegar overnight is mostly a waste of time
I keep seeing people swear by the vinegar soak for rusted bolts, and I tried it for months on old tractor parts in my garage. Last Tuesday I let a seized 5/8 bolt sit in white vinegar for 18 hours and it still wouldn't budge, so I hit it with a torch for 30 seconds and it walked right out. The vinegar eats the surface rust but never gets into the threads where the real grip is, which is why it keeps failing me. Anyone else skip the soak and just go straight to heat, or am I doing the vinegar thing wrong?
