My neighbor's advice about LED shop lights was totally backwards

My neighbor Bob kept telling me I needed those expensive high bay LED lights for my garage. Said the cheap ones from the home store would flicker and die in 6 months. Well I listened to him and spent $180 on two fixtures. They worked fine but honestly I could have bought 4 of the $30 ones for the same money. After 2 years Bob's fancy lights started buzzing and one went out. Meanwhile my buddy's $30 lights are still going strong in his workshop. Anyone else find that budget tools or lights hold up better than the premium stuff sometimes?

Man I used to be EXACTLY like your neighbor. I thought spending more meant getting something that would last forever. Picked up some "pro grade" lights for my basement a few years back and felt real proud of myself. But one of them started acting up after just 18 months and the other one makes this weird hum now. My brother bought the cheapo ones from the same home store and they're still flawless after 3 years. Really changed my whole way of thinking about this stuff. Sometimes the simple designs are just built better without all the extra frills that can break.
