Soldering at 1am with a $9 reading lamp, why didn't I do this sooner

My bench light kept casting shadows on the tiny PCB pads, so I was redoing joints over and over. Grabbed one of those clip-on LED reading lamps from the dollar store and clamped it right above the board. Now I can see the pad and the solder tip at the same time, no more guessing. Anyone else got a cheap lighting setup that beats their expensive stuff?

Dude, my buddy almost gave up on soldering entirely until he taped a phone flashlight to a coffee mug and angled it over his board. He said it was the first time he could actually see the solder flow instead of just hoping it landed right. Now he swears by that janky mug setup and refuses to touch his old magnifying lamp.
