Tried using an old pair of socks to fix my soldering iron stand at 1am
My soldering iron stand broke last week, the little coil thing snapped right off. I was in the middle of a guitar pedal build and didn't want to stop, so I grabbed an old cotton sock and wrapped it around the base of the iron to keep it from sliding. It worked for about 20 minutes until the heat started to melt the fabric, but then I got the idea to soak the sock in water first. That actually kept everything cool enough to finish the job at 1am. Has anyone else tried a wet rag or sock trick for holding hot tools, or is that just asking for trouble?
