Watched a guy at the Seattle maker space fix a broken table leg with zip ties and epoxy instead of wood glue

I always thought you had to match the repair material to what you're fixing, but he explained that sometimes the strongest bond comes from mixing stuff that doesn't belong together. Has anyone else tried weird material combos like that and had it work out?

That epoxy trick saved my buddy's boat engine mount once. Heated and cured solid as anything, weirdest repair I ever saw hold.

Nah, glue and screws work fine. Zip ties are just being cheap.
