Baking paper as a DIY screen saver actually worked for me

I kept ruining screens whenever I tried to reclaim them, the pressure washer was tearing the mesh apart. Last month I grabbed a roll of baking paper from the kitchen and taped it over the screen before hitting it with the nozzle from about 2 feet away. It spread the water out just enough so the emulsion came off without punching holes, worked on a 110 mesh screen I was ready to toss. Has anyone else rigged up a softer spray method, or am I just patching a problem that needs a proper fix?

Heard a guy swear by a piece of t-shirt fabric over the nozzle, same idea.
