Halftone dots finally worked without a film positive

I tried printing a photo shirt by taping wax paper over a printed laser copy with a bit of vegetable oil smeared on it, and the 45 LPI halftone actually washed out clean after 4 tries, so has anyone else gotten by with this homemade transparency hack or do I just need to buy real film?

Buddy tried crisco and parchment, ruined the shirt. Stuck with real film now.
