My neighbor keeps telling me to drop the needle hotter, but my lathe kinda says otherwise
He's been cutting since the 90s and swears running the stylus hot gives you that loud, punchy cut. I tried it on a dub plate for my kid's birthday two months ago and lost most of the high end plus got a nasty inner groove distortion by the last track. I run my Presto at a much gentler heat now, and honestly the grooves hold up way better on playback. The old timers were cutting acetates for radio, not for a real pressing run, so the rules changed and nobody told them. Has anyone else run into this where the older advice just doesn't match the gear you actually own?
