Changed my mind about dollar store glue guns after my neighbor called me out

So I was talking to my neighbor Carol last weekend while we were both out in our driveways. She saw me struggling to glue some foam together for a Halloween decoration and asked why I was using a cheap dollar store glue gun. I told her because it's only $3 and works fine. She pointed out that my project was falling apart because the glue wasn't getting hot enough to bond properly. She let me borrow her $15 one from a craft store and the difference was night and day. It made me rethink my whole approach to dollar store DIY. Now I still get most stuff there but I'll spend a little more on tools that need to actually perform. Has anyone else had a similar moment where you saved money on materials but the cheap tool ruined the whole thing?

Oh man, that hit close to home. I had the exact same thing happen with a cheap hot glue gun from the dollar store last year. It just wouldn't melt the glue sticks right and everything I made fell apart. Finally broke down and bought a better one from a craft store and it's a total game changer. Now I get it totally.
