Had a chat with my neighbor that made me rethink how I glue things

My neighbor Joe saw me hot gluing a dollar store picture frame back together last week. He said I should try using E6000 instead because hot glue gives out after a few months in the sun. I brushed him off at first but then he showed me a birdhouse he built 2 years ago with dollar store craft sticks and E6000 that still looks solid. Now I'm wondering what other dollar store adhesives I've been sleeping on. Has anyone tested which cheap glues actually hold up long term?

Hang on, TWO YEARS sitting outside in the sun and rain and it's still holding together? That's actually insane. I've had hot glue projects fall apart after one summer in my car, and that's just from heat, not even constant weather. Now I'm side-eyeing my whole glue stash because I've got like six different kinds under my sink and I bet most of them are trash compared to that E6000. Dollar store craft sticks too? That's wild, those things are basically popsicle sticks with a prettier name. Gonna have to grab some next time I'm out just to see if my terrible DIY bird feeder lasts more than a week.

Man, I totally felt that way about hot glue until I saw this. Changed my whole view.
