Hot take: those $1.25 wire laundry baskets make the BEST seedling cloches, but you HAVE to do one thing first
I lost 6 tomato starts to a surprise frost two weeks ago here in Wichita because I thought a plain flipped-over dollar store basket would be enough. What actually worked was lining the inside with a clear plastic shower curtain from the same store ($1.25) and clipping it with binder clips so it makes a little greenhouse. The plastic keeps the heat in and the basket holes stop it from cooking the leaves when the sun comes out. Just poke 3 or 4 holes near the top or you'll steam your plants by 10am, I learned that one the hard way. Has anyone tried this with the taller round baskets for peppers, or does the shape mess with airflow too much?
