My dollar store wreath fell apart 20 minutes after I hung it on the door

Last Saturday I spent like 2 hours making this cute fall wreath out of fake leaves and a foam ring from Dollar Tree. I glued everything on with their hot glue sticks, thought it looked solid. Hanging it up, heard a weird crack, and then bam the whole thing dropped and shattered on my porch. Pieces of orange leaf went everywhere. I swear I used half the glue stick on each leaf. Has anyone else had their hot glue gun stuff just fail after a few hours? Is there a trick to making dollar store glue actually hold?

Wait did you actually count the pieces of orange leaf scattered around your porch or was that just your best dramatic estimate? Because I'm picturing you out there with a broom and a tally counter like you're conducting a yard forensics investigation. That foam ring probably gave up the second the hot glue touched it, dollar store foam has the structural integrity of a stale marshmallow. Next time try a wire wreath form from a craft store, it'll cost you like $2 and won't explode the second a leaf looks at it wrong.

Feel you on this one. Same thing happened to me last Halloween with a foam ring and dollar store glue, woke up to a pile of orange leaves and a sad plastic skeleton staring at me from the ground.
