Spent $12 on fancy wrapping paper for a single birthday gift

I bought this nice roll of birthday wrapping paper from a craft store for $12, only to realize the dollar store has paper that looks just as good and costs a buck. Three weeks later I found leftover rolls in my closet and felt dumb. Has anyone else overpaid for wrapping stuff that the dollar store could've handled?
