That dollar store paint I swore would ruin my project actually worked fine

Back in March I needed some craft paint for a birdhouse I was making for my niece. I grabbed a 2 pack of acrylic paint from the dollar store for $1.25, figuring I'd just use it as a base coat and throw the rest away. After three coats it covered just as good as the name brand stuff I usually buy, no streaks or weird texture. Six months later that birdhouse is still sitting outside in the rain and the paint hasn't flaked or faded at all. Anyone else had a surprise hit from something you bought just as a joke?

Huh, that's funny because I used to be a total snob about craft paint but this makes me want to give it another shot. I always figured you get what you pay for but sounds like that's not always true.
