Tried melting crayons in a silicone mold vs just gluing them on a frame, one was way less messy
I saw those melted crayon art pieces all over and wanted to try one for my niece's birthday last month. First I tried the oven method with a $1 silicone mold from Dollar Tree, but the wax pooled weird and smelled up my kitchen for two days. Then I just lined up whole crayons on a $1 canvas and hit them with a hair dryer on low, and it took like 10 minutes with barely any cleanup. The hair dryer version also let me tilt the canvas so the drips went where I wanted. Has anyone found a way to keep the wax from cracking once it dries?
The Dollar Tree mold pooling weird is the exact problem I ran into, the wax never sits flat enough. Did you let the canvas cool flat or standing up after the hair dryer? I'm wondering if the cracking comes from the wax going on too thick in spots, maybe a thin second pass would help.
