Tried to make a dollar store mirror frame and the whole thing fell apart in my hands

I was putting together a mirror frame using those foam sheets and hot glue from the dollar store in my kitchen last Saturday. Had it all laid out nice on the floor, went to pick it up after letting it dry for like 4 hours, and the whole corner just crumbled off. The glue didn't hold at all and the foam tore right through. Ended up using some of those wooden craft sticks they sell in packs of 50 to reinforce the corners and it actually held. Has anyone else had issues with dollar store hot glue sticks not bonding right?

Yeah that hot glue from Dollar Tree is basically useless. I've had it fail on simple cardboard projects before. Stick with the wood sticks like you did, that's the way to go for cheap fixes.

Oh man @kevin_wells46 you are SO right about that glue. I bought a pack of those white hot glue sticks from the dollar store once and I swear it didn't even melt right in my gun. It was all lumpy and then just peeled off like a sticker the next day. I was trying to make a cheap picture frame for my kid's room and the SAME thing happened to me. The foam tore and the glue just let go everywhere. I ended up using those wood craft sticks too but I also put some basic white school glue on top and pressed it down with books overnight. That combo actually worked way better.
