Dropped $180 on a cheap plotter and it paid for itself in 3 weeks
I draft for a small shop in Ohio and we do a lot of site plans for local builders. For 6 years I was emailing PDFs to a print shop across town, paying $9 to $12 a sheet, and waiting half a day to pick them up. When a job got revised, which happens constantly, I had to reprint the whole set again. So 4 months ago I grabbed a 24 inch plotter off Marketplace for $180, talked the guy down from $250. It came with two rolls of bond paper and a spare set of pens. First week it jammed twice and I almost listed it back online, but I swapped the rollers and it has run clean since. I ran the numbers and I was spending roughly $400 a month on outside prints. Now it is maybe $60 in paper and ink. The guys in the field get updated sheets the same day instead of waiting on me. If you are doing more than 40 sheets a month, find a used one and learn to unclog it. What are you all running for in-house prints?
