Got chewed out by an old architect over a 1/4 inch gap

I was laying out a stair detail in a midtown firm last Tuesday and left a 1/4 inch gap between the nosing and the stringer. This 60 year old architect stopped by my desk and told me I just made his life hell for the next two weeks. Anyone else deal with drafters who have zero tolerance for tiny clearance errors?
