I finally got a call from a client about a missing detail on a site plan for a house in Bend

I was in my home office last Thursday when the builder called and asked where the septic tank cleanout was supposed to go. I checked the file and realized I'd drawn the tank but completely forgot the access riser. I had to drive over, meet him on site with my tablet, and sketch it in right there while he waited. Has anyone else blanked on a small but critical detail like that under a tight deadline?

That cleanout riser is the fencing installer's version of forgetting the gate latch. You get so focused on the big picture you miss the one thing that makes it all work. At least you caught it before they started pouring concrete.

Oh man, that reminds me of when I helped my buddy build a deck! We got all the posts set and the frame looked perfect, then realized we'd totally blocked the only path to the backyard grill. Had to pull up three boards right at the end. That "big picture" tunnel vision is so real, you just miss the obvious stuff.
