I switched from a basic mouse to a 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse for my CAD work and the difference is night and day.

Actually the SpaceMouse is more of a controller than a mouse, it works alongside your regular mouse. You use both at the same time. It's a huge help for 3D navigation but you still need the standard mouse for picking tools and clicking menus. Calling it a straight replacement can be a bit misleading for someone new to it.
