Old drafter at my first job showed me why my lineweights were all wrong
I used to just pick a layer and draw, not thinking about what would print. He pointed out that my hidden lines were the same thickness as my object lines and it looked like a mess on paper. Now I set up a lineweight table before I even start a drawing, saved me so much cleanup time.

That ransom note aesthetic actually has a weird charm now that you mention it, adds this raw, kind of urgent energy that polished art can't really touch.
