Old lead drafter took me aside after my third week on the job

I was fresh out of tech school and thought I knew everything about CAD. This grizzled guy named Pete pulled me over to his desk and showed me how he organizes his layers. He said "son, your file is a mess, but fix this one thing and you will save hours." I still use his numbering system 8 years later. Has anyone else had an older coworker drop a small piece of advice that stuck with you for years?
