Overheard a drafter at the coffee shop say he uses 10 layers in every drawing
I was waiting for my latte near a table of architects and this one guy says he stacks 10 layers minimum on every CAD file. No exaggeration. I've been doing fine with 4 or 5 for most residential plans. Am I missing some huge advantage by keeping it simple?

Oh boy, that reminds me of a buddy who drafts for a structural firm. He swore by 8 layers minimum until his boss made him consolidate down to 3 for a big project - turned out the extra layers were mostly just leftover junk he never turned off. From what I saw, the real pros keep it tight and only add layers when the job actually demands it, not because some coffee shop hero said so.

Three layers is plenty if you name them right.
