Tried using a drafting board for the first time last month after 10 years on CAD
I always thought manual drafting was just slower and messier, but a senior guy at my firm in Chicago let me borrow his old board for a project. After a week of laying out a floor plan by hand, I realized how much I was missing small spatial details on screen. Has anyone else found that switching tools for a bit actually improves your digital work?

I put a 200 square foot bedroom on a drafting board last year and I actually think it made me worse for a few weeks after. My lines looked great on vellum but when I went back to CAD I started obsessing over lineweights and hatching patterns instead of just getting the damn model right. The board taught me patience but it also made me slower in a way that hurt my deadlines. I had to unlearn some of the manual habits like drawing every single detail instead of using xrefs and blocks. Different strokes I guess but for production work I would rather just stay in the software.
