Unpopular opinion: layer overrides are more trouble than they're worth in CAD

I've seen three different drawings this month where someone hid a dim layer to clean it up, and then the next guy who opened the file couldn't find where the dimensions went. How do you all handle layer standards on shared projects without things getting lost?

In my experience the real trouble starts when someone uses a viewport-specific override without realizing it only applies to that particular view. Your mileage may vary but I've found it helps to just have a hard rule on the team that overrides only get used for text callouts and nothing else.

My team solved this by locking all dim layers unless someone needs to edit them.
