Went from vellum to CAD back to paper sketches for field work
Started drafting in 1999 at a shop in Dayton that still used vellum and a 36 inch plotter. Went full CAD by 2005, thought paper was dead forever. But the last 2 years I've been printing out my own rough sketches for site visits because my tablet screen dies halfway through and the sun glare makes it useless. There is something about scribbling pipe runs with a mechanical pencil that just sticks in my head better. Still do final drawings in CAD obviously, but my field notes are 100% hand drawn now. Anyone else keeping a physical sketchbook or am I just old?
