Dredging a tiny marina in Gulfport and found a whole dining table still set for dinner
We were doing a routine cleanout on a small marina channel in Gulfport last week, nothing special, just 4 days of pulling sand and old pilings so the shrimp boats could get out easier. Around day 2 my cutterhead started bouncing on something hard, which usually means concrete or a sunken skiff, so I slowed the swing down and brought up what I thought was a sheet of plywood. Turns out it was a full wooden dining table, legs and all, and three chairs were still sitting upright under it like somebody just got up and left. The weird part is the plates and cups were still on top, coated in mud but sitting right where they belonged, and I stood there on the deck trying to figure out how a table gets to the bottom of a marina without anybody noticing. My deckhand wanted to keep the cups, I said no way, we bagged it all and called the harbor office just in case it mattered to somebody. The operator on the next barge laughed and said he once pulled up a whole motorcycle in Biloxi, so I guess this stuff happens more than people think. Has anyone else brought up furniture or something that made you wonder what the story was behind it?
