Just finished a two week job on the Ohio River and the client said it was the cleanest cut he's seen.
We were pulling up old sediment near a dock, and I spent a full day adjusting the ladder angle and swing speed. My foreman kept saying 'too fast, you'll stir it all up again.' After three tries, we got it right and the bucket came up clean every pass. Anyone else have a trick for keeping the cut sharp in soft mud?

Sometimes you just gotta go faster to let the mud settle out clean.

My buddy Jake hit a mud hole so hard his truck came out spotless.

That's the only way to do it, like brookefox said. My old F-150 needed a solid 40 mph to get that pressure wash effect. Anything slower just leaves a nasty film.
