Old timer told me to stop babying the dredge, he was right

Been running my 8 inch cutter for 3 seasons now, always eased into the material slow like the manual says. Last month this retired guy from Mississippi watched me work for about 10 minutes and said 'son, you're not digging, you're tickling it'. He told me to drop the head down hard and let the weight do the work, then back off before the load spikes. I tried it on the next run and pulled 20% more yardage in the same afternoon, engine never even complained. Has anyone else gotten that kind of blunt feedback from a veteran that just totally rewired how you operate?

Man, that hits hard because I used to swear by crawling through everything, but this guy basically showed me I was just burning time, not digging. That whole "let the weight work" thing sounds scary but it honestly made more sense after the first run, and now I wish I'd met him three seasons ago.
