PSA: Check your cutterhead bearing grease fittings before the job starts
I was running a 12-inch cutterhead on a harbor job in Norfolk last Tuesday and noticed the vibration was getting worse. Usually I just top off the bearings at the end of the day but I had a gut feeling to check them before starting. Found out the zerk fitting was completely clogged with dried grease from the previous operator. Spent 15 minutes cleaning it out and pumping fresh grease in, and the head ran smooth as silk for the next 6 hours. Has anyone else run into fittings that look fine but are actually blocked?

Yo same, I used to just top em off without checking but now I always poke the fitting first.
