Running a second line on soft bottom, worth the extra fuel or not?

Switched to a twin rig setup out near Corpus Christi last month. Single wire kept sinking into the muck and losing suction. Added the second line with a spreader bar, cuts the dredge time about 25 percent. But fuel burn went up maybe 40 bucks a day, plus more wear on the pump. The boss says the extra yardage pays for it. My old partner swears single line with a water jet is cheaper. Anyone else run dual lines on soft sediment and actually track the costs?

We ran twin lines off Galveston for two seasons, the extra fuel paid off every time on soft mud.
