Serious question, how do you all deal with a plugged suction line without losing half a day?
Last Tuesday on a job near the Port of Catoosa my 8 inch suction line plugged solid with clay and I fought it for 6 hours before I figured out the boost pump strainer was packed the whole time. I kept shutting down and back flushing when I should have pulled the strainer first thing. What do you all do to keep from wasting a shift on a clog like that?
Pulling the strainer first seems smart but a plugged 8 inch line is usually downstream of that. Clay that far in means something got past the strainer already, so yanking it won't fix the line itself. Plus on a lot of setups the strainer is a pain to get to, and if you break the seal you lose prime and now you got two problems. Have you tried a pressure gauge on both sides of the strainer? That tells you in 10 seconds if it's the screen or the line.
