The difference 8 years makes on a clamshell dredge barge
Ran a 2014 Ellicott 370 last month then stepped onto a 2022 model this week. The newer one has automated ladder control that takes all the guesswork out of deep cuts. Wondering if anyone else has seen that big a jump in efficiency between two barges from the same company.

sam_scott59 fair point but that auto ladder saved my back in one shift honestly.

I mean sure it sounds nice but automated anything on a dredge just gives me another thing to worry about breaking down when we're 20 miles upriver. How much actual time did you save on the 2022 versus dealing with the old manual controls and a good operator who knows the bottom already? I've seen these "upgrades" end up being more hassle than they're worth when the sensors get gummed up and you're sitting there waiting for a tech to drive out.
