The EPA fine I nearly got hit with over a cubic yard of old sediment
I mean, I was checking permits for a job outside Tampa and found out a buddy of mine got a 12k dollar fine last spring for dumping dredge spoils at a spot that wasn't the approved site. He thought it was just a few loads, but they measured the pile and it came up just over a cubic yard past the boundary. Nobody told me the tolerance was that tight. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of inspection, or is Florida just extra strict?

A cubic yard over the line and that's a 12k fine? That's insane. You can't even eyeball that slack, a dump truck could settle and push you over. I figured they left a few feet of wiggle room, not measure the exact pile edge. Florida really does not play around with that sediment stuff.
