Warning: Lost 4 hours of dredge time to a clogged suction line on the Ohio River
Had a rough one Tuesday near mile marker 14 on the Ohio. We were cutting a 12 inch channel and the pump started surging around 9am. Turns out a chunk of old tire and a mess of zebra mussels had wedged up in the suction hose right at the elbow. Took me and the deckhand almost the whole morning with a pry bar and a pressure washer to bust it loose. Cost us maybe 300 yards of production and the boss was not happy when he called at noon. We started zip tying a scrap of screen over the intake after that and it has not clogged since. Anybody else running a screen or grate on their suction, or am I just late to the party on this one?
