Am I the only one whose scraps keep disappearing from job sites?
I was loading out at a build in Boise last Tuesday and caught two guys from another crew tossing my cutoffs into their truck bed like it was free lumber day. I had about 40 pieces of half sheet rock sitting by the dumpster, all clean edges, and they were gone by the time I came back with my last load. When I asked them about it, one of them just said "you were gonna trash it anyway, right?" I get that scraps add up and rock is not cheap, but that pile was mine and some of it was going back up on the stairwell wall. Now I stack everything behind my truck and cover it with a tarp, which feels dumb but here we are. Does anyone else deal with crews helping themselves to their leftovers, or do you just let it go and eat the cost?
Calling it "your pile" is where things get a little fuzzy. Once material hits the ground next to a dumpster, most crews read that as fair game, even if your plan was to put it back up. Half sheets of rock with clean edges sitting by the trash don't exactly scream "do not touch." Sounds like the real fix is what you already did, keep it zoned off and make it known, but maybe tell the other foremen too so word gets around. Otherwise you are just gonna keep losing it and getting mad about it.
