Appreciation post: The old way I used to measure for cutouts vs how I do it now

Back when I started hanging board 8 years ago, I'd hold the sheet up, mark the outlet box with a pencil, and cut freehand. Always ended up with gaps or crooked holes that took extra mud to fix. Last year a guy on a job in Austin showed me to use a scrap piece of board as a template and trace it. Now I cut perfect holes every time and saves me a good 10 minutes per room. Anyone else got a trick that completely changed their cutting routine?
