Found out a 2x4 stud can hold way more than I thought, and it has me second guessing my TV mounts
I was reading through a wood framing guide last week and it said a single 2x4 stud can hold around 100 pounds of pull force if the lag bolt goes into the center of the wood. I have been mounting TVs and heavy shelves on single studs for close to 8 years now, and I always stuck to the 50 pound rule out of habit. Now I am wondering if I have been overbuilding every job, or if those numbers only count when the wood is perfect with no knots. How do you all figure your weight limits on a mount, or do you just keep doubling up studs no matter what the chart says?
