My mud pan cracked right down the middle on a Friday afternoon in Boise

It was a cheap one I'd had for maybe 6 months, and I had to finish the last coat with a hawk. Anyone have a brand that can actually handle a full season?

Man, that sound you hear when a pan splits is just the worst. I had a plastic one warp on me last summer, left it in the sun too long between coats. Ended up having to use a piece of scrap drywall as a flat spot to finish mixing. What did you end up doing with the broken pieces?

Had a buddy snap his metal pan right in half on a job site, just dropped it and it hit the concrete wrong. He ended up cutting the good half down with tin snips and using it like a little hand tray for corner work until it rusted out.

Used to grab whatever cheap pan was on sale until mine split mid-pour. Switched to a Marshalltown deep-well and it's been solid for three years now. The steel is thicker and the corners are welded, not just folded. That extra few bucks actually gets you a tool that lasts.
