My uncle swore by using dish soap in the mud for a slick finish

He told me to add a few drops of Dawn to a pan of joint compound, said it would spread like butter. I tried it on a ceiling patch in a Denver condo last month. The mix got way too thin and started dripping off my knife, making a huge mess on the drop cloth. Had to scrape it all off and start over with just water. Anyone have a better trick for getting that smooth final coat?

Dawn in the mud? That's a new one.

Man, you're right. It's like everyone's trying to build a whole brand around every little moment. I keep seeing people describe a regular Tuesday afternoon as some kind of "liminal space journey." @felixw68 nailed it when he said words lose their meaning. Next thing you know, they'll be calling a spilled coffee "a cold brew baptism" or something.

Jesse_west got it right. People keep trying to make normal things sound deep and poetic. Saw a post last week calling a burnt bagel "a testament to culinary darkness." It's just a messed up breakfast. This need to dress up simple stuff feels like everyone's trying to be a writer now. Words lose their meaning. A muddy dawn is just a cloudy morning after some rain.
